Is cybercrime a trillion-dollar problem and larger than the global drug trade?
Is intellectual property theft “the greatest transfer of wealth in history” or grossly overblown? Is cyber-war the “greatest existential threat we face” or “the new yellowcake?”
Are these claims really true, or are they just mere factoids aimed at raising unnecessary fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD)? How do we hope to advance the discipline of cybersecurity when unsubstantiated claims circulate unchallenged?
We don’t see claims about global warming or the dangers of genetically modified foods go publicly unchallenged, so why is it a case with the cybersecurity domain?
